Elden Ring features vast landscapes filled with formidable creatures, but few encounters capture the imagination like the colossal sleeping dragon known as Elder Dragon Greyoll. Found resting in the treacherous region of Caelid, this gigantic beast offers players a massive opportunity to gain early-game experience and resources. Understanding where to find this massive creature and navigating the path safely can significantly boost your Tarnished journey.

Where to Find the Giant Dragon in Caelid

Elder Dragon Greyoll is located in the northern region of Caelid, specifically within the area known as Dragonbarrow. She lies resting directly outside Fort Faroth, surrounded by several smaller dragons that act as her defenders. Identifying her location on the map is straightforward once you unlock the surrounding territory.

The giant white dragon remains stationary on the ground, making her an unmissable landmark in the landscape. However, approaching her directly from the front can trigger her defenders, who will attack you on sight. Planning your approach carefully ensures you can reach her without drawing unnecessary aggression.

How to Reach Greyoll Early in the Game

The most popular route for low-level players starts at the Third Church of Marika in East Limgrave. Behind the church hidden in the bushes lies a portal that teleports players directly to the Bestial Sanctum in Dragonbarrow. This shortcut bypasses the dangerous road leading into Caelid from Limgrave.

Once transported to the Bestial Sanctum, summon your mount Torrent and ride south along the main road. Avoid engaging any high-level enemies along the path to conserve health and stay alive. Follow the path past the Minor Erdtree until you arrive at the Fort Faroth Site of Grace, located right beside Greyoll's tail.

Safely Approaching and Defeating the Dragon

To safely engage Greyoll without waking her dangerous offspring, approach her massive tail from behind near Fort Faroth. Attacking her tail from this safe angle keeps the smaller dragons completely oblivious to your presence. This strategy allows players of any level to defeat her without entering a chaotic combat situation.

Because Greyoll possesses an immense health pool, using weapons that inflict the Hemorrhage or Bleed status effect is highly recommended. Bleed damage scales off maximum health, dealing massive chunks of damage at regular intervals. This drastically speeds up the process of reducing her health pool.

Rewards and Preparation Tips

Defeating Elder Dragon Greyoll yields a massive reward of roughly 70,000 to 100,000 Runes along with five Dragon Hearts. To maximize your Rune gain, consume a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot right before dealing the final blow. This simple preparation provides a temporary boost to your earned Runes.

The earned Dragon Hearts can be exchanged at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion for powerful incantations like Greyoll's Roar. Defeating this ancient giant early in your playthrough grants a substantial level advantage that helps overcome tough bosses later on.
